7-28-08 progress!

Well, after a week up at the house, things that we planned to get done, didn't...but there was progress.

Hubby went and purchased the wood stove, it's going to be delivered, and installed August 15th, so hubby had to change his plans with his work schedule, and get the hearth prepared.

But first...before he could prepare a new hearth, he had to do floor repair...ugh..always something else first...there was major water damage to the beam to the right of the fireplace....

After a good deal of work, it was finally patched up...under the rotted floor, there is a basement window...which is practically gone also..so we have to order one special, but the floor should hold up now....

Now for the hearth! Hubby had to spend another few hours getting supplies...(it's a 1/2 hour drive) but he just had time to get the hearth installed, before his vacation was over! It still needs to be grouted, but it will have time to cure, before the delivery.

Hubby didn't plan on going back up next weekend, he wanted to have time to rest..but it's not likely now, he has things he wanted to get done..the sooner it's done, the sooner the electricians can come back.

We did however, come across one little glitch in the cabinet making ...well...he made the corner cabinet, and managed to get it primed before he left, but..it doesn't fit through the basement door, to stash it away ...now it's stuck in the garage, taking up space, he'll have to move it in and out, so he can make the next one..till he can get it upstate! (however he can do that...) and..what if it doesn't fit through the door????? uh oh...

More completed!

Well, things are moving..almost finished reorganizing walls upstairs! Closets are made, rooms framed out..the closet for the Master Bedroom is framed..gosh, it's a big closet...but it has one drawback..it has two big windows in it. I can deal...at least in case of a blackout, light can shine!

Anyway, don't want to bore you with a bunch of pictures of actually nothing but wood, so when the wallboard is added I'll post more there.

Until then, I'll put up any pics that I find more interesting! (nothing this week)

Question

(Laughing) Like I was addressing loads of people huh? Well, this question is for you who do attempt to read my blog..I know it's not exciting...however, it allows me to keep a good record of what's going on here and there.

Now for the question..How do you think the house would look with a full front porch? You can see the front of the house here : July 2nd post.

I asked the contractor for a price for one, so we can decide if it's feasible. We shall see. If we do, it won't be until next year..but it would be nice to be able to sit on my lemonade porch, and catch a breeze!

Today, another trip

I don't know if it has anything to do with it, but Hubby's back has been getting sore..we are starting to wonder if it's all the traveling every weekend. Maybe I should get him a tubey thingie for his car seat..something to take pressure off his spine..I don't know.

We worked out the problem with the floor in the bathrooms, I didn't know at first, that the cement backer board came in 1/4 thicknesses...so it's not a problem.

We spent last night, doing a planning session, so when he got up there tonight, he knew what to start on..etc..

It's funny..we sit there discussing his options, the what's and how's...and my daughter comes in, and asks what we are talking about..I give her a look..and say, " What else"?

Anyway, we planned out the bathroom...seemed we had a problem putting in a regular sized toilet. Hubby kept telling me, that due to the swing of the bathroom door, we needed to put in a space saver toilet. SO we went to our favorite hangout last night, and it seems, a space saver, will only save us 1".

It kept bothering me, that we couldn't use the one I already purchased..I was pleased with my purchase, and really wanted to use it. Then "duh"..it hit me. If we have a problem with the way the door has to swing in to the bath, and having the door swing into the hall, (which is something I don't want) why not...a pocket door? duh. I can't believe I let this thing torture my mind for so long...when the answer was so simple.

It's not a problem putting one in, and it was only $59. for the hardware,a small cost for a huge problem. So I bought the hardware..now hubby can put together the bath the way we want.

Whew....another problem solved. Now maybe I should buy him something for his back.

work,work,work....

(Sigh) does it ever end? It takes so long...I do have another view of the roof,

Now, here is an update on the inside..he almost finished framing out the two bathrooms on the second floor! We are still working on the bathroom layout, seems things just don't want to go where they should...

One day we will get them sorted out!
